Borgo Magredo is situated in Tauriano di Spilimbergo, at the foot of the Carnic Pre-Alps, due east from Pordenone.
This is the heart of the Grave Friuli DOC, where the soil is referred to as “magredi” and the weather characteristics are extremely favorable to winemaking.
The “magredi” are extensive deposits of pebbles and stones, transported to the Friulan flatlands by the Meduna River while it streams down from the Pre-Alps.
These smooth and round rocks make up most of the soil and provide unprecedented drainage for the local significant rainfalls. The drainage is so efficient that over time the typical dryness of these lands gave rise to an unusual ecosystem able to survive with almost no water retention.
The winemaking conditions here are truly ideal, especially considering that the hot summer days are followed by cool, breezy nights and the resulting temperature excursion contributes to create incredible aromas in our grapes.
